USA Makes Roster Cuts At World Juniors Evaluation Camp

August 11th, 2009 by Steve

The Americans are playing the Russians in a series of four “challenge” games at the tail end of their World Juniors evaluation camp.  To that end, the team has made cuts from the initial 42 invitees to camp, down to a more manageable 29 players on their roster.

Luckily for Leafs fans, Kenny Ryan, and Jerry D’amigo were both included in the 29 selections for the challenge games, despite neither one particularly standing out during play in intrasquad scrimmages that have taken place so far.

In the 3 Blue and White games that have been played so far, D’amigo has 0 points, while Ryan has 1 assist.

Hopefully the two of them can make a larger impact in the more meaningful games.  The Americans have kept 5 forward lines and 5 defensive pairs on their roster, so it may be difficult to demonstrate much if they are playing with limited ice time.

Cuts prior to the final tournament roster won’t be made for a number of months, so it is important that Ryan and D’amigo play well this season in their first years of NCAA hockey.  Hopefully both will continue to impress.

Good for them. D’Amigo should make it in my opinion.
