DiDomenico Makes World Junior Squad
December 16th, 2008 by SteveThe Leafs have a prospect on the Canadian National Junior squad again. 5′11″, 170 lb forward Chris DiDomenico of Woodbridge Ontario, was selected earlier today. He plies his trade as the main scoring threat for the Saint John Seadogs of the QMJHL. So far this season he has 11 goals and 23 assists for 34 points in 23 games. He was also a member of the QMJHL squad during the Canada-Russia challenge this past November.
His playing time may not be all that regular as an offensive threat, as he will be playing on a team full of offensive threats. What will dictate his ice time will be his willingness to do the little things expected of all the players at the tournament if they want to win. This could also be a solid bellweather of where DiDomenico fits in developmentally in comparison to his peers from his draft class.
Keep a close eye on how he looks up against the other top prospects in his age group and don’t be surprised if there’s a correlation between success at the World Junior tournament and success at the NHL level.

Jimmy Hayes also made the American squad. Even more reason to look forward to the New Years Eve date between Canada and the US.

Mikhail Stefanovich is also playing for Belarus in the Division I World Junior tourney that just got underway in Austria. The top 2 teams in the tournament are promoted to the top division for next year.
They’re in the midst of their 2nd game against France as I write this, and Stefanovich has a goal and an assist in the game. He now has 1 goal, 1 assist, and is +2 for the tournament after 2 games.
His only real competition in the A pool will come against Slovakia, Switzerland, and Estonia. In pool B there are Ukraine, Norway, Denmark, and Austria.
Hopefully he plays at a high level throughout the tournament so it’s worth his while to get the experience.

Make that 1 goal and 2 assists. Belarus destroyed France 8-2.
