Beware of Doug - Killer New Assistant Coach For The Marlies
August 7th, 2008 by SteveDoug Gilmour had decided earlier this summer he wanted to move into coaching. The problem at the time was, there was no certainty that there was room for him within the coaching ranks of the Leafs. Now the decks have been cleared and Killer has signed on to be an assistant coach with the Marlies in the AHL.
This should be seen as wonderful news by Leafs fans everywhere. Doug Gilmour is one of the best leaders the Leafs have ever had, and his mentorship will be a definite plus to any players passing through the Leafs farm system. His knowledge of the game at both ends of the ice is quite abundant, as demonstrated during his Selke trophy winning season with the Leafs where he was also nominated for the Hart Trophy, in 1992-93. He also obviously has a knack for getting the most out of other players on the ice. His fire and tenacity on the ice should translate well behind the bench.

Gilmour spent the past two seasons as a player development advisor to the Leafs, scouting players at every level of the organization, and reporting back to management with his observations. He should therefore have intimate knowledge of the games of most of the players with the Marlies, and where they have room to improve.
Here’s looking forwards to coach Gilmour and his future work in developing young Leafs.

I believe that Gilmour will be an excellent coach. He has tremendous hockey sense. Great leadership abilities, and a attitude of tenacity that he can probably pass on to his players.
